Christopher Scott , A Positive Role Model

by Kimberly V. Taylor Many times we say that we cannot find a positive image of a Young Black Man. Christopher Scott proves this theory wrong. He is a student who has a 4.0 GPA . He is class president and senior at East Technical High School. He takes courses at Tri-C and He has already been accepted at The University of Toledo in the Fall. He is a motivational speaker for the youth and tutors in his community. Please give Chris a round of applause! Bravo Chris! Here are some words from Christopher Scott, man of the hour. I am a hardworking teen. I love to get involved in community activities and work with others around me to help better my social skills. I really like to enjoy myself in anything I do; I currently work at a daycare with kids who are a lot younger than me. I held my position at this site for three years now. It started out as a summer job then turned into something I became very passionate for. I really like to help others more than anything in the world. I feel that even though I might be doing well. It’s always a blessing to help someone else who may be less fortunate be a better person. As a student at East Tech, I currently hold the positions as 2009 senior class president, president of student council and vice president of national honors society. Having these positions has been a real honor to me because it gives me the chance to show others who I am and what I stand for. One thing that concerns me the most is school academics. A lot of times when my school is mentioned it is by athletics than it is academics. I believe education should always be first on the agenda. Rather it being in school or out. Education is the key to success it’s the root of everything. Its one of those have to do on my agenda with making East tech a better school. I also attend Tri-C classes doing the school year my current GPA at Tri-C is 3.1 and a 4.0 at my high school. I plan to pursue a career in pharmacy when I graduate from high school. Also, I would like to be involved in motivational speaking for the people. I have attended a program called “look up to Cleveland” (LUTC) class of 2008, where I met many new friends and learned about the better things in Cleveland. I met many of the people who run a lot of powerful programs in Cleveland and I also got a tour into Jacobs’s field as a gift for attending the program. I’m also in a program called Educational Talent Search (Trio). I have attended a leadership conference with Trio in Columbus where I learned how to give affective speeches and work with time managing. Aside from all the school activities I also do a lot of things outside of school. I’m involved in a program called YEP, which also help students become better and serve on multiple community service projects. Another program I am involved with is: “Our Stories” Preserving our community pillars where students would go out and visit homes of elderly neighbors and give interviews on some of the changes in the neighborhoods, and some of the neighborhood pillars. The interviews also come with a fresh paint job to refurbish the outside of the elderly person’s home. Outside of all the activities, I have received many awards that make me proud to be the young man I am today. One I will share is an award I got for leadership from a program called Project L.O.V.E. this award not only made me smile. It also made me feels as if someone’s watching me and realizes that I do not participate in the activities I am in for recognition. I get involved in them because it’s who I am. I care about the things that go on in the community and outside. And given the opportunities I have in front of me, I will not let anyone take that away from me. I will try my hardest to make things better for me and others even if the road gets bumpy.
